Why Go Tankless? Some people like to say, “Out of sight, out of mind.” We beg to differ. While your home’s hot water system isn’t as visible as your other appliances, its importance outweighs them all. Switching to a tankless water heater improves your home’s performance and elevates your family’s lifestyle. With a tankless, you’ll never need to worry about running out of hot water again, even when there are multiple showers running simultaneously with the dishwasher and washing machine.

How It Works:

  1. Flame ignites and heats two heat exchangers
  2. Water preheats as it passes through the secondary heat exchanger
  3. Water continues to heat to desired temperature as it passes through stainless steel primary heat exchanger
  4. Water exits the unit and travels to the water fixture where it is needed
  5. Flame output adjusts as needed to maintain water temperature during use
  6. With usage complete, the flame turns off and water stops flowing

Condensing VS. Non-Condensing:

  • Condensing: Natural gas/propane is combusted to create enough heat energy required to heat the water. The water heater uses “condensing technology” to absorb additional heat from the exhaust gases. The additional heat is also used to heat the water.
  • Non-Condensing: Natural gas/propane is combusted to create enough heat energy required to heat the water. The exhaust/flue gases are vented to the outside.
  • Essentially, condensing water heaters can absorb some of the heat from exhaust gases after the combustion process which would have been wasted in a non-condensing water heater.

Efficiency: Unlike traditional tanks, tankless water heaters only run when they’re being used, saving significant energy without sacrificing performance or convenience. Tankless water heaters are about have a higher uniform energy factor rating than the traditional tank.

Rebates: With a tankless, you may qualify for rebates offered by PSE/PUD and even a Federal Tax Credit.
